Harvard Stays Unbeaten With Dominant Win Over Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. (Interstat) — In a commanding performance that defied pregame expectations, the Harvard Crimson remained undefeated with a decisive 35-14 victory over the Princeton Tigers on Saturday at Princeton Stadium.

Entering the contest as a three-touchdown underdog according to oddsmakers, Harvard methodically dismantled Princeton, improving its record to a perfect 4-0. The Tigers, meanwhile, saw their record level at 2-2.

The game’s narrative was rewritten on the very first drive. Harvard quarterback Jaden Craig, a Montclair, New Jersey native, needed just three plays to find the end zone, connecting with Cam Henry on a 69-yard touchdown pass down the middle of the field. The score gave the Crimson a 7-0 lead and set an assertive tone for the visitors.

Princeton responded with a lengthy, 15-play drive that consumed over half of the remaining time in the opening quarter. Tigers quarterback Kai Colón of Middletown, New York, methodically moved the offense, culminating the possession with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Aidan Besselman to tie the game at 7-7.

Harvard reclaimed control in the second quarter with a sustained drive deep into Princeton territory. While the Crimson offense stalled inside the 10-yard line, kicker Kieran Corr was good from 22 yards out to put Harvard back in front, 10-7.

The Tigers answered with a big play of their own. Colón found running back Ethan Clark on a short pass that turned into a 51-yard touchdown, giving Princeton its first and only lead of the game at 14-10.

The momentum was short-lived. Harvard mounted a critical two-minute drill just before halftime. Craig efficiently led the Crimson down the field, setting up a dynamic 28-yard run by Xaviah Bascon to the Princeton 4-yard line. Bascon punched it in on the next play with 18 seconds remaining, and a successful two-point conversion pass from Craig to Jordan Harris sent Harvard into the locker room with a 18-14 advantage.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle, with neither team able to find the end zone. Princeton’s best chance to narrow the gap came up short when Esteban Nunez Perez missed a 46-yard field goal attempt.

Harvard extinguished any hope of a Princeton comeback on the first play of the fourth quarter. Isaiah Bullock barreled into the end zone from a yard out, capping a 15-play, 71-yard drive that bled over from the third quarter and extended the Crimson lead to 25-14.

The Crimson defense then forced a quick punt, and the offense put the game completely out of reach. A methodical drive, powered by the ground game, was finished by backup quarterback DJ Gordon of Indianapolis, who scrambled for a 9-yard touchdown. The score put Harvard up 32-14, and a subsequent field goal by Corr provided the final margin.

Harvard’s offensive attack was balanced and potent. Craig finished 16 of 29 for 216 yards and a touchdown through the air, while adding 29 yards on the ground. The Crimson rushing attack was led by the versatile Xaviah Bascon, who gashed the Tigers for 101 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Isaiah Bullock added 58 yards and a score, and DJ Gordon contributed 35 yards and a touchdown on just six carries. Cam Henry was the primary receiving threat, hauling in five catches for 96 yards and the game’s opening touchdown.

For Princeton, Kai Colón completed 19 of 31 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw a critical interception just before halftime that led to Harvard’s go-ahead score. Ethan Clark was a bright spot for the Tigers, rushing for 61 yards and catching a 51-yard touchdown pass.

The result was a stark contrast to the pregame projections, where Interstat’s game simulator had predicted a Princeton 24-19 victory, despite its own ELO system giving Harvard a 78 percent chance to win.

Harvard looks to continue its perfect season next Saturday when it hosts Dartmouth. Princeton will aim to rebound on the road against Cornell, also next Saturday.
