Wisconsin at Oregon
EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — The Oregon Ducks methodically wore down the Wisconsin Badgers, pulling away in the second half for a 21-7 victory on Saturday at a rain-soaked Autzen Stadium before a crowd of 58,940.
The game, a defensive struggle for long stretches, was tied at the half before the Ducks scored touchdowns on consecutive drives bridging the third and fourth quarters to secure the win and improve their record to 5-1. Wisconsin, held scoreless until a late fourth-quarter drive, fell to 2-4.
After a first quarter dominated by punts and defensive stands, Oregon found its offensive rhythm late in the second quarter. The Ducks engineered a 14-play, 82-yard drive that consumed over six minutes, culminating in a 3-yard touchdown run by Jordon Davison with 1:07 remaining in the half to tie the game at 7-7.
The Ducks took control on their first possession of the second half. A 35-yard run by Noah Whittington sparked the drive, and Davison finished it with a 20-yard touchdown scamper to give Oregon a 14-7 lead with 12:14 left in the third quarter.
Oregon’s defense, which harassed Wisconsin quarterback Hunter Simmons all afternoon, continued to stifle the Badgers’ offense. The Ducks then put the game out of reach early in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback Brock Thomas, in for Dante Moore, connected with Gernorris Wilson on a 1-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 21-7 with 14:17 remaining.
Wisconsin’s lone score came on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Simmons to tight end Lance Mason with 7:57 left in the game, capping a 15-play, 78-yard drive. The Badgers’ offense otherwise struggled mightily, with Simmons completing just 7 of 21 passes for 86 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The Ducks’ ground game was the engine of their offense. Davison was a workhorse, rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Whittington added 97 yards on 14 attempts, providing a consistent one-two punch that kept the chains moving.
Defensively, Oregon was led by a swarming unit that recorded multiple sacks and quarterback hurries. Linebacker Mason Posa was a bright spot for Wisconsin in the loss, recording a game-high 13 tackles.
The final score of 28 total points fell well under the pregame over/under line of 45.5. Oregon next travels to face Iowa on Nov. 8, while Wisconsin returns home to host Washington on the same date.
