Howard at Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Howard looks to rebound from its first conference loss when it visits struggling Tennessee State in a non-conference matchup Saturday at Nissan Stadium.

The Bison (3-2) are coming off a 32-14 road loss to Sacred Heart where their offense sputtered. Quarterback Tyriq Starks was held to 80 yards passing, though the run game showed flashes with Anthony Reagan Jr. rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Howard’s two losses this season have been by a combined 24 points, while its three wins have come by an average margin of 16 points.

The Tigers (1-4) have lost four straight since a season-opening win over North Carolina A&T. Tennessee State is coming off a 28-12 loss to Southeast Missouri State where quarterback Byron McNair threw for 175 yards but the offense managed just one touchdown.

Defense has been a season-long issue for the Tigers, who have allowed an average of 40.2 points during their four-game skid, including a 59-3 loss to FCS powerhouse North Dakota State.

Despite the records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair with Tennessee State winning 41-27.

Kickoff is set for Saturday afternoon in Nashville.
