CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — Wake Forest built a massive early lead and cruised to a 39-14 victory over Oregon State on Saturday at Reser Stadium. The Demon Deacons scored 25 unanswered points in the first half and were never challenged by the struggling Beavers.

Quarterback Deshawn Purdie threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns for Wake Forest, with three of those scores going to receiver Chris Barnes. Running back Demond Claiborne added 144 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Demon Deacons improved to 3-2.

Oregon State, which fell to 0-6, was held scoreless until the fourth quarter. Cornell Hatcher Jr. and David Wells Jr. scored late touchdowns for the Beavers, who were projected as a slight pregame favorite but were dominated from the outset.
