Illinois at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Interstat) — A surging Illinois team riding high after a signature win visits Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday to face a Purdue squad looking to regain its footing in Big Ten play.

The Fighting Illini (4-1) are coming off a dramatic 34-32 victory over Southern California, a game in which quarterback Luke Altmyer accounted for four touchdowns, passing for two and running for two more. Altmyer’s 328-yard passing performance highlighted an offense that also features receiver Hank Beatty and running back Kaden Feagin. The Illini’s only blemish is a 63-10 road loss to Indiana.

The Boilermakers (2-2) have dropped two straight, including a 56-30 defeat at Notre Dame in their last outing. Quarterback Ryan Browne threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns in the loss, while Devin Mockobee was a versatile threat out of the backfield. Purdue’s victories this season have come against Ball State and Southern Illinois.

Despite Illinois’ stronger record, oddsmakers favor the home team. Purdue has been installed as a 9.5-point favorite. The over/under is set at 55.5 points. A projection from Interstat forecasts a 32-23 victory for the Boilermakers.

The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, October 4.
