William & Mary at Villanova
BRYN MAWR, Pa. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum in the early conference schedule will meet Saturday when the William & Mary Tribe visits the Villanova Wildcats at Villanova Stadium.
William & Mary (2-2) enters the contest coming off a dominant 34-7 nonconference victory over Charleston Southern last Saturday. Quarterback Tyler Hughes powered the offense, throwing for 296 yards and four touchdowns while adding 51 yards on the ground.
Villanova (1-2) is looking to rebound after a 51-33 road loss to Monmouth. Despite the defeat, the Wildcats’ offense showed flashes, with running back David Avit rushing for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Pat McQuaide threw for 333 yards and two scores in the outing.
The teams have followed similar paths this season, each suffering a lopsided loss to a Power Five opponent – William & Mary fell 55-16 at Virginia, while Villanova lost 52-6 at Penn State.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Villanova is projected to win 27-17. The matchup could hinge on William & Mary’s defense, which was stout last week, containing Villanova’s potent rushing attack led by Avit.
The game kicks off at 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 27. William & Mary will host North Carolina A&T on Oct. 4, while Villanova travels to face New Hampshire the same day.
