Howard at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — A surging Howard team will look to continue its strong start when it visits Richmond on Saturday in a non-conference matchup at Robins Stadium.

The Bison (3-1) are coming off a dominant 34-7 victory over Hampton last Saturday. Howard’s offense found success through the air and on the ground, with quarterback Tyriq Starks leading the way by completing 12 of 15 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown while adding 27 rushing yards. The Bison have won three of their first four games, with their only loss a 55-7 defeat at the hands of FBS opponent Temple on Sept. 6.

The Spiders (2-2) are also entering the contest with momentum after a 38-14 win over Virginia Military Institute. Quarterback Kyle Wickersham threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 44 yards and another score in the victory. Running back Jamaal Brown provided a potent ground attack, rushing for 153 yards on 14 carries.

Richmond has faced a challenging schedule, including a 41-6 loss at North Carolina. The Spiders’ other loss was a 21-14 season-opening defeat at Lehigh.

According to a projection from Interstat, Richmond is favored to win, with a simulated final score of 35-24.

Following this game, Richmond opens its Patriot League schedule at Bucknell on Oct. 4. Howard’s next game is at Sacred Heart on Oct. 11.
