(Interstat) — Mercer’s Jess Ackerman tossed four perfect innings of relief with nine strikeouts, and Logan Shepherd homered and drove in three runs as the Bears held off East Tennessee State 9-7 on Thursday afternoon at Thomas Stadium in a Southern Conference showdown. Shepherd finished 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs, including a solo shot in the eighth inning that proved to be the decisive blow.
