OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Troy Trojans and Mississippi Rebels meet Sunday in an NCAA Division I Baseball Championship playoff game at Charles Schwab Field.

Troy (38-31) faces Mississippi (41-22) in an afternoon matchup. The Trojans dropped their most recent game 7-5 at West Virginia on Friday. The Rebels also lost Friday, falling 6-2 at North Carolina.

Zach Crotchfelt is a key pitcher for Troy. In six recent appearances, the right-hander has posted a 1.35 ERA over 20 1/3 innings. He allowed two earned runs while striking out five in 4 1/3 innings against West Virginia on June 12. Crotchfelt threw five scoreless innings against Southern Mississippi on May 23, striking out eight. He also worked four scoreless innings against South Alabama on May 21 and pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings against Miami (Fla.) on May 31.

Mississippi counters with pitcher Taylor Rabe. The right-hander has a 1.93 ERA over his last three starts spanning 18 2/3 innings. Rabe struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings against North Carolina on June 12, allowing one earned run. He threw seven innings against Auburn on June 6, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight. Rabe also fired six scoreless innings against Nebraska on May 30, striking out nine.

In Troy’s loss to West Virginia, catcher Jimmy Janicki went 2 for 4 with a home run and an RBI. Second baseman Sean Darnell went 2 for 3 with an RBI. The Trojans have won seven of their last 10 games.

For Mississippi, second baseman Dom Decker went 2 for 5 with an RBI in the loss to North Carolina. The Rebels have won eight of their last 10. Mississippi took two of three from Auburn in the Super Regional round.

The Trojans and Rebels have not faced each other this season. Sunday’s winner advances in the College World Series bracket. First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon.
