Texas vs. Georgia

OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Texas Longhorns (45-13) and Georgia Bulldogs (51-12) meet Saturday, June 13, in the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field, a matchup of two of the nation’s top seeds.

Texas advanced by winning a super regional Sunday, defeating Oregon 6-5. The Longhorns leaned on right-hander Ruger Riojas, who allowed four earned runs on zero hits over 5.2 innings, striking out seven. Riojas also tossed five scoreless innings in a regional victory May 31 against UC Santa Barbara, allowing just one hit. The junior’s command will be tested against a Georgia lineup that has produced 18 runs in its last two games.

Georgia won its super regional in dramatic fashion Sunday, beating Mississippi State 11-9 in 10 innings. Shortstop Kolby Branch powered the offense, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs. Branch was 1-for-4 with an RBI a day earlier in a 13-12 win over the same Bulldogs. His bat has been inconsistent, however; he went hitless in five combined at-bats in regional wins over Liberty before breaking out against Mississippi State.

The Longhorns’ offense has been potent, scoring at least six runs in seven of their last eight games. Carson Tinney went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs against Oregon. Texas pitchers allowed just eight runs combined in two games against Oregon, with Samuel Cozart striking out four over two perfect innings in relief.

Georgia’s pitching has shown resilience. Caden Aoki struck out nine over 5.2 innings against Mississippi State, allowing four earned runs. First baseman Brennan Hudson added a home run and two RBIs in that game.

The Bulldogs have won nine of their last 10 games, averaging 8.4 runs per contest. Texas has won eight of its last 10, with its only losses coming to Arkansas on May 22 and at Tennessee on May 9.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Eastern. Texas will be the visiting team.
