Kansas at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — The Kansas Jayhawks (44-16) aim for a series sweep Sunday when they face Arkansas Razorbacks (40-21) at Baum-Walker Stadium in a 2 p.m. first pitch.
Kansas took the series opener Saturday, 5-3, behind a combined pitching effort from Riane Ritter and Mason Cook. Ritter worked 2⅓ scoreless innings of relief, striking out four without allowing a hit. Cook earned the win with 4⅔ innings, yielding two earned runs on three hits.
Ritter, a right-handed reliever, has been a weapon for Kansas out of the bullpen. Over his last eight appearances, he has posted a 3.18 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 10⅔ innings. He has been particularly effective in high-leverage situations, stranding 8 of 9 inherited runners. However, his command has been inconsistent at times (Interstat) — he allowed two hits and three earned runs in ⅓ inning against Baylor on May 21.
Arkansas counters with senior right-hander Hunter Dietz, who took the loss Saturday despite a dominant performance. Dietz struck out 14 over 6⅓ innings, allowing four earned runs on no hits. He walked three. On the season, Dietz has a 3.86 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 79 innings, and he has held opponents to a .192 batting average.
Dietz has been especially sharp at home. In four starts at Baum-Walker this season, he is 3-1 with a 1.78 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 35⅓ innings.
The Razorbacks are 5-4 in their last nine games. Their offense has been led by freshman first baseman Reese Robinett, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs Saturday. Robinett is batting .312 with 11 homers and 44 RBIs.
Kansas is 7-2 in its last nine games and has won four straight. The Jayhawks are averaging 6.8 runs per game during that stretch, and their bullpen has a 2.45 ERA over the last 12 innings.
Arkansas and Kansas have split their last six meetings dating to 2024, with the home team winning each of the last four.
The Razorbacks’ next game is Sunday at Northeastern in Lawrence, Kansas.
