UCF at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. (Interstat) — Auburn (39-20) hosts UCF (32-22) on Sunday afternoon in a nonconference baseball matchup at Plainsman Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CDT, with the forecast calling for temperatures in the [blank] range.

The Tigers enter on a high after outlasting North Carolina State 17-13 on Saturday, scoring in every inning from the third through the eighth. Catcher Chase Fralick led the way, going 2-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs. Over his last 10 games, Fralick has four homers and 14 RBIs, including a .333 average in his past three contests. His power bat will be a focal point for a UCF pitching staff that surrendered 13 runs in a loss at Milwaukee on Saturday.

The Knights (32-22) are coming off a 13-6 defeat to the Panthers, in which right-hander Evan Jones took the loss despite throwing 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and no hits allowed. Jones has struggled with command in recent outings, giving up 10 earned runs over his last 10.1 innings across four appearances. He is expected to be available out of the bullpen Sunday, though UCF has not announced a starter.

Auburn’s lineup has been prolific, averaging 8.8 runs per game over its last five contests. The Tigers have won four of six and swept a two-game series at Texas A&M earlier this month. UCF has split its last four games, dropping two of three to Kansas State before winning a series at Baylor.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 Auburn victory. The Tigers hold a 39-20 record against UCF’s 32-22 mark, and home-field advantage favors the Southeastern Conference side.

Players to watch include Fralick, who has six homers and 20 RBIs in May, and UCF outfielder Andrew Williamson, who homered Saturday and is hitting .310 over his last 10 games. First baseman Ethin Bingaman (two homers, three RBIs on Saturday) and center fielder Cade Belyeu (two homers, four RBIs) also loom for Auburn.

The game is the second of a two-game, nonconference series after the teams did not meet earlier in the season. UCF’s pitching depth will be tested against a deep Auburn order.
