Oregon at Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. (Interstat) — Left-hander Luke Meyers delivered a dominant start for Washington State, but a three-run home run by Oregon’s Niko Lauaki in the top of the ninth inning broke a scoreless tie and lifted the Ducks to a 4-0 victory over the Cougars on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Oregon improved to 42-16 while Washington State fell to 31-27.

Meyers worked 7 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts. He left with the game still scoreless after retiring Oregon in order in the seventh. But the Cougars’ bullpen could not preserve the shutout.

Washington State’s offense managed only two hits and stranded four baserunners. The Cougars put a runner in scoring position in the fifth after Ollie Obenour walked and Cam Macleod singled, but Kyler Northrop struck out to end the inning. In the seventh, Dustin Robinson walked and advanced to second on a groundout, but Obenour struck out.

Oregon’s pitching staff combined for the shutout. Devin Bell struck out two in a perfect ninth inning after entering for Thomas Bradley. The Ducks’ defense turned two double plays to stifle any Cougar threat.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the ninth. With one out, Oregon’s Andrew Laya singled to left-center and was replaced by pinch runner Ethan Cook. After a sacrifice bunt moved Cook to second, Bryce Jaksa walked. Beau Mabeus then reached on a fielder’s choice that forced Jaksa out at second but allowed Cook to advance to third. Lauaki followed by driving the first pitch from reliever Scott Rienguette over the right-center field wall for a three-run homer, his only hit of the game.

Rienguette allowed three earned runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out one.

For Washington State, Macleod finished 1 for 1 with a hit by pitch and a stolen base. The rest of the Cougars’ lineup went 0 for 24, with Northrop, Robinson, Ryan Skjonsby and Obenour combining for 0 for 11. The Cougars struck out 16 times.

For Oregon, Mabeus doubled and scored a run, and Jair Gimenez singled and drove in a run in the fifth inning. Gimenez’s RBI single gave Oregon a 1-0 lead after Mabeus had doubled, but Meyers retired the next batter to limit the damage.

Oregon put two runners on base in the sixth but hit into a double play. The Ducks stranded a runner at third in the fifth as well.

The Ducks collected seven hits and drew four walks. Washington State managed only two hits and walked twice.

The game unfolded far differently than Interstat’s game simulator projection, which had predicted a 7-6 Oregon victory. Interstat’s ELO system gave Oregon a 76.30 percent probability to win. The Ducks entered as the pregame favorite with a spread of plus-3.5 runs.
