Yale at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — The Oregon Ducks will look to halt a two-game slide Friday night when they host the Yale Bulldogs in a nonconference matchup at PK Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. with a forecast of clear skies.

Oregon (40-16-1) enters on the heels of a 3-2, 11-inning loss at UCLA on Sunday. Yale (30-13-1) has won three straight, including a 7-5 victory over Brown on May 17.

The pitching matchup features two of the nation’s top arms.

Yale right-hander Teo Spadaccini will make his second start of the season. The junior has been dominant in limited recent action, tossing 3.0 perfect innings with two strikeouts in a win over Columbia on May 15, then allowing three hits and two earned runs over 5.2 innings in a victory against Brown two days later.

Oregon will counter with right-hander Miles Gosztola. The senior has been steady despite recent tough luck. In his last outing Sunday at UCLA, Gosztola allowed just one earned run on zero hits over 5.0 innings, striking out four but taking the loss. He has struck out 20 batters over his past three starts spanning 15.0 innings.

The Ducks have relied on a balanced attack. Catcher BurkeLee Mabeus went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI in the loss to UCLA.

Yale’s offense has been opportunistic. Center fielder Kaiden Dossa drove in two runs in the win over Brown, and the Bulldogs have scored at least seven runs in four of their past five games.

Oregon has been the stronger team overall, winning 40 of 57 contests, but Yale owns the better winning percentage at .693 heading into the game.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Yale 8, Oregon 5. Despite that projection, Oregon has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus-3.5.
