Holy Cross at Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — Anthony Pack Jr. hit three home runs and drove in five runs as Texas routed Holy Cross 19-1 on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, winning its third straight game and improving to 41-13. The Crusaders fell to 25-29.

Pack Jr. homered in his first three at-bats, starting with a solo shot in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. He added a two-run blast in the third and another two-run homer in the fifth, both times extending Texas’s lead. The Longhorns never trailed after Pack Jr.’s first homer.

Texas pounded out 21 hits and scored in every inning from the second through the eighth. Aiden Robbins homered twice, driving in three runs, and Jayden Duplantier hit a grand slam in the sixth that pushed the lead to 16-1. Luke Harrison earned the win with four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Cody Howard followed with two shutout innings of relief, and Ethan Walker and Hudson Hamilton each added a hitless inning.

Holy Cross managed eight hits, with two doubles and a run in the ninth on a run-scoring single by Chris LaFleur. The Crusaders struck out 13 times and grounded into two double plays.

The game’s decisive stretch came in the third through fifth innings. After Holy Cross scratched out a run in the first on a double by Alex Sandell, Texas answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Pack Jr.’s second homer made it 4-1. The Longhorns added five more in the fourth, capped by Temo Becerra’s two-run double, and then erupted for six runs in the fifth on homers by Robbins and Pack Jr. Texas led 11-1 after five.

Duplantier’s grand slam in the sixth off reliever Jack Citro broke the game open further. Adrian Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored, and Dariyan Pendergrass drove in two runs. Ethan Tinney scored three times and stole a base.

Holy Cross starter Luke Egrie allowed seven runs in three-plus innings, taking the loss. The Crusaders used four relievers.

Texas’s victory came after a 1-8 loss to Arkansas on May 22, a game in which Pack Jr. went 0-for-4. He rebounded with a 3-for-4, two-RBI performance against Missouri on May 16 and carried that momentum into Friday.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Holy Cross 7, Texas 6, while its ELO system gave Texas a 92.30 percent probability to win. Texas entered as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus 7.5.
