MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Sun Belt Baseball Championship) (Interstat) — Colby Allen pitched six innings of one-run ball and Joey Urban and Davis Gillespie each homered to lead Southern Mississippi to a 6-2 victory over Troy on Sunday evening at Riverwalk Stadium.

The turning point came in the bottom of the third. With one out, Smith doubled to score Higdon and tie the game at 1-1. Troy changed pitchers, bringing in Dylan Alonso, but Urban crushed the first pitch he saw over the left-center field wall to clear the bases.
Southern Mississippi added two more in the fifth. Urban singled and scored on Gillespie’s home run, a deep drive to center field.
Troy attempted a rally in the eighth. Pyne singled, advanced on a fielder’s choice and an error, and scored on a fielder’s choice by Drew Nelson, making it 6-2. But Allen retired the side without further damage.
Troy used eight pitchers in the game. Starter Drew Nelson lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits and two walks. Dylan Alonso, Judah Buckner, Brady Richardson, Chase Cartron and Tate Farquhar combined for 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing three runs on five hits.
