BOSTON (Interstat) — Luc Rising struck out 11 over six innings and Harrison Feinberg and Carmelo Musacchia delivered clutch hits as Northeastern defeated UNC Wilmington 7-3 on Friday night.

Rising allowed four hits and three earned runs in a no-decision, but the Huskies improved to 35-20. The Seahawks fell to 29-27.

UNC Wilmington starter Connor Marshburn was dominant through six scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out eight. He exited with a 3-2 lead after Jake Bechtel’s two-run homer in the top of the sixth.

Northeastern had taken an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. With runners at the corners, Justin Fosberg grounded out to second, driving in Jack Criscola. Carmelo Musacchia then scored on a balk to make it 2-0.

UNC Wilmington answered in the fourth. After a walk to Luke Hughes, Brady Thompson doubled to left center, scoring Hughes and cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The Seahawks grabbed the lead in the sixth. Brody Newton singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a groundout. Bechtel then homered to left center, his 10th of the season, giving UNC Wilmington a 3-2 advantage.

Marshburn kept Northeastern hitless through six, striking out eight. He was replaced by Clay Masonis to start the seventh. Masonis retired the side in order in the seventh, but the eighth inning proved decisive.

Feinberg led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run to left center, his 16th of the season, tying the game at 3-3. After two quick outs, Jack Brinker doubled down the right field line. Masonis issued a walk to Jack Aschettino, and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Criscola walked to load the bases.

Musacchia then singled to left center, driving in Brinker and Aschettino to give Northeastern a 5-3 lead. During the play, Criscola was thrown out trying to reach third, but Musacchia advanced to second on the throw. UNC Wilmington head coach Randy Hood was ejected after the play.

Andrew Rogovic, who had entered in relief in the seventh, remained on the mound. A wild pitch and a throwing error by UNC Wilmington shortstop Tanner Rickett allowed two more runs to score, making it 7-3. The inning finally ended when Northeastern’s Chris Harmony struck out looking.

Rogovic threw two perfect innings in relief, striking out four. Andrew Wertz closed the ninth with a hitless inning, striking out two.

Rising’s performance marked a strong rebound from his previous start May 15 at Towson, where he allowed five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. He worked around four hits and three walks while fanning 11.

For UNC Wilmington, Thompson finished with one RBI and Bechtel drove in two. The Seahawks managed only four hits total. Marshburn’s six no-hit innings were wasted when the bullpen could not hold the lead.

Northeastern’s win snapped a two-game losing streak. The Huskies had lost 6-0 to Hofstra on Thursday. UNC Wilmington lost for the second straight game after falling 3-1 at Campbell on Thursday.

The game featured strong pitching early, with both starters dominating. Marshburn did not allow a hit until the eighth inning, though he left before Feinberg’s game-tying homer. Rising struck out 11 in six innings but allowed three earned runs, including Bechtel’s homer.

Northeastern’s bullpen was perfect. Rogovic and Wertz combined for three hitless innings with six strikeouts. UNC Wilmington’s bullpen struggled, with Masonis allowing four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings and T.J. Ziermann recording one out in the eighth.

The Huskies will look to build on the victory as they continue their series. UNC Wilmington will seek to even the series in the next game.
