MESA, Ariz. (Interstat) — Tarleton State defeated Sacramento State 9-0 on Thursday at the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Championship. The Texans improved to 35-19, while the Hornets fell to 27-31.

Cort Lowry tossed seven innings of one-hit shutout ball with three strikeouts. Jake Tatom hit a three-run homer in the third inning and finished with three RBIs. Cage McCloud added two hits and two RBIs.

Tarleton State scored five runs in the first inning, keyed by a double from Guerra that drove in two runs. The Texans added a run in the second on McCloud’s single and Tatom’s homer in the third. Sacramento State managed only one hit in the game.

Several pitchers for the Hornets—Chase Sorlie, Adam Enyart, Joey Loubert, Baylor Sandberg—combined for scoreless relief, but the offense could not reward them. Ari Kligman allowed one earned run in 1-2/3 innings.
