Gaels crush Bulldogs 13‑4 to claim WCC championship
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Interstat) — Sam Kretsch tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts as Saint Mary’s routed Gonzaga 13-4 on Thursday to win the West Coast Conference Baseball Championship. The visiting Gaels (30-24) amassed 18 hits, scoring in six innings. Diego Castellanos drove in three runs, Cody Kashimoto added three RBIs and Nick Allred hit a two-run homer in the ninth. Saint Mary’s took a 1-0 lead in the first and broke the game open with a five-run fourth. Kretsch, who allowed no hits and two earned runs, rebounded from a poor start five days earlier. Cam Staton pitched three scoreless innings in relief. Tanner Griffith went 3 for 5 with an RBI. Gonzaga (35-18) managed nine hits but could not overcome the deficit. Noah Meffert and Ryder Young each had two hits and an RBI. The Bulldogs had swept the Gaels in a three-game series in April but could not repeat that success.
