Lindenwood (MO) vs. Southeast Missouri State

MARION, Ill. (Interstat) — The seed Southeast Missouri State Redhawks (38-16) face the seed Lindenwood Lions (29-26) in the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship on Wednesday evening at Rent One Park.

Southeast Missouri State, which won the OVC regular-season title, carries a 38-16 overall record into the tournament. The Redhawks have been dominant of late, taking two of three at Arkansas-Little Rock last weekend, including a 10-5 victory Saturday behind second baseman Brooks Kettering. Kettering went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in that game, part of a torrid stretch that has seen him collect four multi-hit performances in his last five contests. Over his past 10 games, the junior is batting .333 (10 for 30) with two homers and seven RBIs.

Lindenwood enters as the seed after finishing the regular season 29-26. The Lions closed with a 7-4 win over Tennessee-Martin on Tuesday, powered by designated hitter Jake Radosevich. Radosevich went 1 for 5 with a home run and drove in four runs. He has been inconsistent but dangerous, with four RBIs in two of his last three wins. Over his past 10 games, Radosevich is hitting .222 (8 for 36) with one homer and 12 RBIs, and he provides a right-handed power threat in the middle of the order.

The teams split a three-game series in early April at Lindenwood. The Lions won the opener 3-2 on April 2, the Redhawks answered with an 8-0 shutout on April 3, and Lindenwood took the finale 7-1 on April 4. Southeast Missouri State’s pitching staff, which posted a 3.89 ERA in OVC play, will look to contain a Lions lineup that averages 6.1 runs per game. Lindenwood counters with a bullpen that has a 4.85 ERA but has been backed by timely hitting.

Wednesday’s winner advances in the double-elimination tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT.
