Le Moyne at Central Connecticut
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Interstat) — Le Moyne visits Central Connecticut on Friday for the first game of a doubleheader, with both teams looking to snap recent skids. The Dolphins enter at 18-24, while the Blue Devils are 17-24. The teams met Thursday in a game that ended in a 0-0 score, though no other details were available.
Le Moyne is coming off a 20-3 loss Tuesday at Albany, where catcher Derek Diaz went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Diaz, a player to watch, has been inconsistent this season. In his previous 10 games, he recorded only those four hits — all in that blowout defeat — and went hitless in six other contests. He also pitched a scoreless inning April 21 against Canisius, allowing one hit and one earned run.
Central Connecticut last played Sunday, losing 7-2 at Mercyhurst. Pitcher Bryce DiPiero worked 1⅓ scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out none. DiPiero, another player to watch, also threw 1⅔ innings April 26 against New Haven, giving up two hits and one earned run. He has not allowed a run in his past two relief appearances spanning three innings.
The Blue Devils have lost three of their last four games overall, while the Dolphins have dropped two straight after splitting a four-game series with Maryland-Eastern Shore. Le Moyne’s offense has been streaky; the Dolphins scored 15 and 16 runs in back-to-back wins over the Hawks on May 8-9 before managing only three runs against Albany.
Le Moyne’s other recent results include a 9-2 win over Stonehill on May 3, a 5-4 victory over the Skyhawks on May 1, and a 24-13 loss to Binghamton on April 28. Central Connecticut’s other results include an 8-7, 10-inning win at Mercyhurst on May 9 and a 13-1 victory at Sacred Heart on May 5, but the Blue Devils have struggled against Fairleigh Dickinson, losing three games in a series earlier this month.
Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-4 win for Le Moyne in Friday’s opener.
Both teams have only this doubleheader on their immediate schedules. The first pitch time for Game 1 has not been announced.
