Richmond at Saint Louis

SAINT LOUIS (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders visit the Saint Louis Billikens on Thursday in a non-conference matchup between two teams heading in opposite directions.

Richmond (30-22) brings a potent offense to St. Louis after dropping a 16-6 decision at Virginia on Tuesday. Trevor Dosenbach, the Spiders’ center fielder, went 2 for 2 with a home run and five RBIs in that loss. Over his past 10 games, Dosenbach has posted a .375 average (6 for 16) with two homers and five RBIs, though he has also recorded multiple hitless outings.

Saint Louis (20-31) enters Thursday’s game on a two-game winning streak, including a 7-6 victory at Fordham on Sunday. Pitcher Noah Andrunas earned the win in that contest, allowing two earned runs on zero hits over six innings while striking out two. The right-hander has been inconsistent this season, however, giving up six earned runs in a five-inning loss at VCU on May 3. In his last four starts, Andrunas has a 5.11 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings.

The Billikens’ offense has shown signs of life, with left fielder Hank Gomric and designated hitter Chase Beattie each driving in three runs in the win over Fordham. Gomric homered and went 1 for 2, while Beattie also homered and drove in three.

Richmond’s pitching staff received a strong relief outing from Glenn Smith in Tuesday’s loss — 3 1/3 scoreless innings — but the Spiders’ bullpen has been taxed after a three-game sweep of George Washington last weekend. The Spiders outscored the Revolutionaries 31-12 over that series.

Saint Louis, meanwhile, has struggled at home, winning just 8 of 23 games at Billikens Stadium this season. The team has lost five of its last seven home contests.

The two teams also meet Saturday in the second game of this two-game set. Richmond’s next 10 games include this series and a trip to Saint Louis again on Saturday; the Billikens’ schedule is identical.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Richmond victory, reflecting the Spiders’ superior record and recent offensive output. First pitch is scheduled for Thursday evening.
