Houston Christian at Southeastern Louisiana

HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — Southeastern Louisiana looks to continue its dominance over Houston Christian when the Lions host the Huskies on Thursday, May 14, at 6 p.m.

Southeastern Louisiana (30-19) swept a three-game series against Houston Christian (23-27) in late April, outscoring the Huskies 28-4. The Lions won 12-2 on April 24, 12-1 on April 25, and 4-1 on April 26.

Houston Christian enters on a high note after a 4-3 win at Sam Houston State on Tuesday. Reliever Matthew Rheaume pitched a scoreless inning with three strikeouts, helping the Huskies snap a three-game losing streak. However, Rheaume’s last appearance against Southeastern Louisiana was rough: he allowed three earned runs in one-third of an inning during the 12-2 loss on April 24.

Rheaume, a right-handed pitcher, has been effective in limited relief duty recently. He has not allowed a hit over his last two innings. He will need to keep the Lions’ offense in check, as Southeastern Louisiana has won 10 of its last 12 games.

The Lions are coming off a 12-2 win over Nicholls State on May 7. Shortstop Connor Cuff drove in three runs and hit a home run in a 2-for-4 performance. Cuff has been red-hot at the plate. Over his last five games, he is hitting .400 with four home runs and nine RBI. He went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the 12-2 win over Houston Christian on April 24 but was 0-for-3 in the 4-1 game two days later.

Southeastern Louisiana also received strong pitching from Logan Freche in the Nicholls win, as he allowed one hit over two scoreless innings. The Lions’ offense has been prolific at home, scoring at least 10 runs in four of their last seven home games.

Houston Christian, meanwhile, has struggled against Southeastern Louisiana pitching. The Huskies managed just four runs in the three-game sweep last month. Houston Christian’s offense has been inconsistent, but the team showed resilience in the win at Sam Houston State, using three pitchers to hold the Bearkats to three runs.

The game is a key late-season matchup for both teams. Southeastern Louisiana looks to strengthen its postseason resume, while Houston Christian aims to build momentum and snap a four-game skid against the Lions.
