Lumberjacks Pitch Shutout, Top Cardinals 2‑0
BEAUMONT, Texas (Interstat) — Cody Templeton fired six hitless innings and Stephen F. Austin rode Josh Ibe’s second-inning home run to a 2-0 victory over Lamar on Thursday at Vincent–Beck Stadium.
Templeton struck out five, walked none and did not allow a baserunner. Reid Bowyer followed with three hitless innings and one strikeout to complete the combined one-hitter. Ibe’s solo homer to left-center, his seventh of the season, gave the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. The only other run scored in the fifth when a fielder’s choice plated Ethan Pena after an error.
Lamar’s Travis Lutz took the hard-luck loss despite allowing one earned run on six hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts. Nathan Darden tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Stephen F. Austin had six hits, led by Pena’s two hits, while Lamar managed five hits but left multiple runners on base.
The Lumberjacks improved to 27-24 overall; the Cardinals dropped to 28-25.
