Holy Cross crushes Bucknell 11‑2 in Patriot League game

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — Jaden Wywoda’s pitching and a 17-hit attack powered Holy Cross past Bucknell 11-2 on Monday afternoon at Eugene B. Depew Field.

The Crusaders (24-27) jumped ahead in the first inning when CJ Egrie homered down the left-field line. Braden Connors added a two-run shot in the sixth. Holy Cross broke the game open with a six-run seventh, highlighted by Connors’ RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Alex Sandell. The visitors tacked on runs in the eighth and ninth.

Bucknell (26-23) managed four hits and scored twice in the bottom of the ninth. Lleyton Coupe walked with the bases loaded, and John Calabrese added a run-producing fielder’s choice.

Holy Cross starter Jake Schultz worked into the seventh, but the Bison bullpen could not slow the Crusaders. Gianni Royer, Owen Stelzer and John LaFleur also delivered key hits for Holy Cross.

The two teams meet again Tuesday in the second game of the series.
