San Diego at Pacific

STOCKTON (Interstat) — The Pacific Tigers rallied from a four-run deficit and held off the San Diego Toreros for a 6-4 victory Friday night at Klein Family Field.

Pacific improved to 21-25 overall, while San Diego fell to 17-28. The Tigers’ win came despite a high-probability projection that had favored the Toreros.

San Diego jumped out quickly in the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Jayden Lobliner lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Gage Mestas. The Toreros added no further damage, leaving the bases loaded, but held a 1-0 lead.

The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third, when Pacific erupted for four runs. Rylan Evans led off with a single, moved to second on a walk to Blaine French, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Brendan O’Sullivan tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Robert Orr doubled to left center, scoring French. Jake Tandy then crushed a two-run home run to center, giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead.

San Diego answered in the top of the fourth. Phoenix Brant walked, and Cade Martinez doubled to center, scoring Brant to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Toreros tied the game in the sixth. Connor Meidroth led off with a solo home run to left field, making it 4-4. Meidroth finished 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI.

Pacific reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Tandy doubled to left field, advanced to third on a single by Braeden Schnabel, and scored on a single by JT Shank. Schnabel later scored on a single by French, giving the Tigers a 6-4 lead.

San Diego threatened in the ninth. Lobliner doubled, Aden Howard singled to drive in Lobliner, and Meidroth singled to put runners on first and second. But Carson Revay struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Zach Todd earned the win for Pacific, tossing five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts. Todd continued a strong stretch after throwing six shutout innings against Loyola Marymount on May 1. Revay recorded the save, pitching 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out six.

Diego Gutierrez took the loss for San Diego, allowing six earned runs on zero hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out six. He was saddled with the damage despite not surrendering a hit due to walks and a home run. Christian Garcia tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Connor Meidroth led the Toreros offense with two hits, including a home run. Jayden Lobliner drove in a run and doubled in the ninth.

The game featured a pivotal third inning for Pacific, which turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead on a timely double and a two-run homer. The Tigers’ bullpen, led by Revay and Connor Raridan, who allowed one earned run in 1 1/3 innings, held San Diego scoreless over the final three innings.

Interstat’s ELO system had projected San Diego with a 75.30 percent probability to win the game.
