WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Interstat) — Milo Suarez hit two home runs for Dartmouth, but Yale rode a four-run sixth inning to a 7-3 victory Friday afternoon at Yale Field in an Ivy League matchup.
The Bulldogs improved to 25-13 overall, while the Big Green fell to 14-24.
Yale starter Jack Ohman earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out seven. Tate Evans pitched 2⅔ innings of hitless relief, striking out four, and Alex Hwang recorded the final out in the ninth.
Dartmouth took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when T. Sirchia doubled and Suarez followed with a home run to left-center, driving in both runs. Suarez added his second homer of the game in the sixth, a solo shot that gave Dartmouth a 3-1 lead.
But Yale answered in the bottom of the sixth. Garrett Larsen doubled and advanced to third on an error, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Diprima. Jack Dauer doubled, and Colin Sloan reached on a strikeout plus a wild pitch, putting runners at the corners. Jackson Hays singled, driving in Dauer and advancing Sloan to third on an error. Davis Hanson then laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored both Sloan and Hays, giving Yale a 6-3 lead.
The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the eighth. Diprima walked, Dauer was hit by a pitch, and after a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Hays grounded out to third to drive in Diprima, making it 7-3.
Nate Isler started for Dartmouth and took the loss, pitching six innings while allowing six earned runs on eight hits with 11 strikeouts. Mac Burke threw a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts, and Trey Sejnoha allowed one earned run in the eighth.
Yale outhit Dartmouth 10-4. Suarez went 2 for 3 with two homers and three RBIs. For Yale, Larsen was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Hays went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Diprima had a hit and an RBI.
The Big Green’s only other hit came from Sirchia, a double in the second. Dartmouth managed just one hit after the fourth inning, as Evans and Hwang combined for 3⅓ innings of hitless relief.
Yale threatened in the first when Kaiden Dossa doubled and Larsen singled him home, but a double play ended the inning. The Bulldogs tied the game in the fourth on Diprima’s double and Colin Sloan’s RBI single.
Dartmouth loaded the bases in the second after Suarez’s first homer but could not add on. The Big Green also had a runner in scoring position in the fifth but stranded him.
The game was the first of a two-game series; the teams meet again Sunday at Yale Field.
