SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — Brennan Greer pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Stephen F. Austin held Incarnate Word to two runs in a 4-2 victory Thursday evening at Roadrunner Field.

The Lumberjacks improved to 25-23 overall, while the Cardinals fell to 17-28. Stephen F. Austin started the scoring with a four-run fourth inning, capitalizing on a passed ball and a pair of two-out hits to build a lead that proved insurmountable.

Starter Elian Balmaceda worked the first four innings, allowing two runs on one hit despite not surrendering a hit through the first three frames. Balmaceda walked two and struck out two. Incarnate Word’s first hit came in the second inning when Cole Tabor singled. After a walk to Anderson and a wild pitch that advanced both runners, Kevin Ramos singled to drive in two runs, cutting Stephen F. Austin’s lead to 4-2.

The Lumberjacks had taken control in the top of the fourth. Julian Swift led off with a single and Mark Henning doubled, putting runners at second and third. Swift scored on a passed ball, and Henning moved to third. After Ibe walked, Cantua singled to drive in Henning, and DeJesus followed with a single to score Ibe. Swift finished 1 for 4 with a run and an RBI, Henning was 1 for 4 with a double and a run, and Cantua and DeJesus each had one hit and one RBI.

Stephen F. Austin added its final run in the fifth inning. Bland singled, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a fielder’s choice by Swift. Bland was thrown out trying to steal second in the seventh inning. The Lumberjacks finished with seven hits, while Incarnate Word had eight.

Incarnate Word threatened in the bottom of the second but stranded a runner at third. Tabor doubled with one out in the third, but the Cardinals could not bring him home. The Cardinals grounded into two double plays, including a key one in the fifth inning after a walk put two runners on. Greer entered in the fifth and retired seven of the eight batters he faced, striking out two. Reid Bowyer pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out none.

For Incarnate Word, starter Zac Colletti allowed five hits and two earned runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one. Josh Bludau worked three innings of relief, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out one. Braelin Pillot struck out three over two perfect innings.
