Saint Louis at Lindenwood (MO)
SAINT CHARLES, Mo. (Interstat) — Will Geary collected three hits including a triple and a home run, drove in three runs, and the Lindenwood Lions routed the Saint Louis Billikens 10-1 on Wednesday at Robert F. Hyland Performance Arena.
Geary’s two-run homer in the eighth inning broke the game open as Lindenwood improved to 25-22. Saint Louis dropped to 17-31.
Saint Louis scored its only run in the top of the first inning without a hit. Drew Kleinheider was hit by a pitch with one out, moved to second on a Riley Iffrig single and scored on a Joey Canzoni single later in the inning. The Billikens loaded the bases with two outs in the second but Krew Bond flied out to end the threat.
Lindenwood tied the game in the bottom of the third. With one out, Kam Edwards singled, stole second and scored on Geary’s triple to right-center. The Lions took the lead in the fourth. Filip Sarota was hit by a pitch, Sam Driscoll singled, and after a groundout advanced both runners, Will Zareh singled through the left side to score Sarota. Matt Graf followed with a single to drive in Driscoll, and Owen Ralph singled to load the bases. Kam Edwards grounded out to first base to bring home Zareh, making it 4-1.
Lindenwood added a run in the seventh. Edwards singled, Geary singled, and Jake Radosevich singled to load the bases. Sarota’s sacrifice fly scored Edwards, and after Driscoll was hit by a pitch, Zareh walked to force in Geary for a 6-1 lead.
The Lions put the game away in the eighth. Owen Ralph walked, and after Edwards sacrificed him to second, Geary homered down the right-field line to make it 8-1. Sarota walked, Driscoll singled, and Tyler Ellis doubled to left field, clearing the bases for a 10-1 advantage.
Lindenwood used seven pitchers. Michael Walsh started and allowed one run on three hits over two innings with two strikeouts. Tanner Paschke (2.2 innings, two hits, one strikeout), Dillon Haftorson (1.1 innings, one hit, two strikeouts), Braden Branigin (one inning, one strikeout), Ethan Milius (one inning, one hit), and Luke Wright (one inning, one hit) combined for six scoreless innings of relief. Paschke earned the win.
Saint Louis starter Andrew DuMont pitched two perfect innings before being lifted. James Showalter took the loss, allowing one run on one hit in one inning. Cade Earing, Jack Dumont, Dylan Gormont and Colin Hawkins followed. DuMont’s two scoreless innings and Dumont’s two hitless innings with one strikeout were bright spots for the Billikens.
Geary entered the game hitting .333 over his previous four contests, including a 2-for-5 effort May 3 at SIU Edwardsville. His triple in the third and homer in the eighth were his first extra-base hits of the series.
The Billikens managed eight hits, led by Iffrig’s three hits and a double. Kleinheider reached base three times on two hit-by-pitches and a walk but was left stranded twice.
Saint Louis faces Fordham on the road in a three-game series beginning Friday. Lindenwood hosts Tennessee Tech for a three-game set starting Friday.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Lindenwood 5, Saint Louis 2, and its ELO system gave the Lions a 52 percent probability to win.
