LEWISBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — Navy defeated Bucknell 5-3 on Sunday at Eugene B. Depew Field in the first game of a Patriot League doubleheader.

The Midshipmen (29-14) took an early lead on a two-run homer from Garrett Mathias in the second inning, but Navy answered in the fifth when John Hooten homered and Ty Cripe doubled with an RBI. Bucknell cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth on a triple by Lleyton Coupe and a single by Billy Ty.

Navy added three runs in the eighth on an RBI double from Patrick Walsh, an RBI single from Andrew Manning and a sacrifice fly by Will Howard.

Owen Phypers earned the win, tossing 5.0 innings with no hits, two earned runs and five strikeouts. Matt Archibald threw 4.0 hitless innings with one earned run and seven strikeouts.

Brady Hoar took the loss for Bucknell (21-21), allowing six hits and two earned runs over 6.0 innings with four strikeouts. Mathias went 1 for 3 with a home run and an RBI for the Bison.
