Stanford at Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Interstat) — The Stanford Cardinal look to avenge a recent loss and build momentum when they visit the Santa Clara Broncos in a nonconference baseball matchup Wednesday at Stephen Schott Stadium.
Stanford (17-19) enters having split a four-game series with Miami (Fla.), including a 14-6 win Sunday powered by a 3-for-4, three-RBI performance from right fielder Brock Sell, who homered. Sell, a key player to watch, is hitting .500 (4-for-8) over his last three games with that home run and three RBIs.
Santa Clara (14-24) seeks to rebound from being swept in a three-game series at Pacific, capped by a 7-1 loss Sunday. The Broncos will look for a repeat of their last meeting with Stanford, a 2-1 victory on April 15 at Sunken Diamond. Reliever Jackson Cook is a player to watch for the Broncos; he threw three hitless innings in that loss to Pacific, though he allowed two earned runs.
The Cardinal have struggled for consistency but own recent series wins over Louisville and Clemson. The Broncos have lost eight of their last ten games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 Stanford victory, with its ELO rating giving the Cardinal a 67.6% probability to win.
Stanford opens a three-game home series with Florida State on Friday. Santa Clara begins a West Coast Conference series against Portland at home on Friday.
