Sacramento State at UC Davis
UC Davis hosts Sacramento State in midweek baseball matchup
DAVIS, Calif. (Interstat) — UC Davis (18-20) welcomes Sacramento State (18-23) to Dobbins Stadium on Wednesday, April 22, for a 6 p.m. nonconference contest, the second game of a back-to-back set between the in-state rivals.
The Aggies, coming off a 8-4 victory at Fresno State on Monday, look to build momentum behind two-way standout Braydon Wooldridge. The right-hander tossed 4 2/3 scoreless, hitless innings in that win and has been effective both on the mound and at the plate this season. Wooldridge also homered and drove in two runs in an April 17 victory at Cal State Northridge.
Sacramento State counters with right-hander Carson Timothy, who has shown flashes of dominance amid inconsistency. Timothy threw five scoreless, hitless innings against Texas-Arlington on April 19, allowing one earned run and striking out one. However, he has struggled in other recent outings, surrendering four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings at Utah Tech on April 3 and four earned runs in four innings at Creighton on March 27.
The Hornets dropped the series finale at Texas-Arlington 8-6 on Sunday, despite strong relief from Colin Hunter and Sean Carey. The teams played Tuesday night in Davis, with the result unavailable at press time.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 UC Davis victory. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
