Texas Tech at Abilene Christian
PREVIEW: Texas Tech at Abilene Christian
ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — Texas Tech visits Abilene Christian on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, for a midweek nonconference matchup at Crutcher Scott Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
The Red Raiders (21-19) enter on an upswing after a 13-3 rout of Tarleton State on Tuesday. Right fielder Connor Shouse went 3 for 5 with four RBIs in that win, breaking out of a prolonged slump. Over his previous nine games, Shouse had managed just three hits in 32 at-bats (.094) with four RBIs, including an 0-for-4 showing in three of those contests. He also logged a scoreless inning of relief in a 10-5 win at New Mexico on April 7.
Abilene Christian (18-19) is coming off a narrow 5-4 loss at Indiana on Sunday. Relief pitcher Evan Whiteaker turned in a strong outing, tossing three scoreless innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout. Whiteaker has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen, allowing just one earned run over his last seven innings across four appearances, striking out seven.
The teams met earlier this season on March 31 in Lubbock, where Texas Tech rolled to a 15-4 victory. That game was part of a difficult stretch for Abilene Christian, which has lost six of its last seven.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 win for Texas Tech.
Players to Watch
Shouse, a right-handed hitter, will look to build on Tuesday’s performance and provide a spark near the top of the Red Raiders’ order. Texas Tech has struggled recently, dropping six of its last eight before the Tarleton State win.
Whiteaker gives Abilene Christian a versatile bullpen option capable of multi-inning relief. His recent command — three walks allowed in his last 10 innings — could be key against a Texas Tech lineup that averages 7.2 runs per game.
Looking Ahead
Texas Tech opens a three-game home series against Oklahoma State on Friday. Abilene Christian begins a three-game set against Texas-Arlington at home on Friday.
