Ates Tosses Complete Game as Army Defeats Bucknell in Doubleheader Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — Trey Ates delivered a dominant complete-game performance Saturday, leading the Army Black Knights to a 5-1 victory over the Bucknell Bison in the first game of a doubleheader.

Ates allowed just one run on five hits, striking out eight. His effort outdueled Bucknell’s bullpen, which saw Bryce Mitchell and Brady Hoar combine for eight no-hit innings, though Hoar was charged with four runs.

Army broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning on Thomas Schreck’s RBI single and a wild pitch. Josiah Overbeek’s two-run homer in the fifth provided crucial insurance. Deacon Bowne drove in Bucknell’s lone run.

Army improved to 22-15 overall, while Bucknell fell to 20-18. The teams met again in the second game of the twinbill later Saturday.
