Youngstown State at Akron

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Interstat) — The Akron Zips will look to continue their recent momentum when they host the struggling Youngstown State Penguins in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Skeeles Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT. The game is a rematch of a March 31 meeting that saw Akron (14-20) edge Youngstown State (5-28) by an 11-10 score.

The Penguins enter on a six-game losing streak, including a weekend sweep by Wright State where they were outscored 43-17. Their last win was a doubleheader sweep at Milwaukee on April 3. A bright spot has been catcher Ryan Schummer, who is 8 for 32 (.250) with two home runs and six RBIs over his last 10 games. He homered and drove in two runs in Sunday’s 20-8 loss to Wright State.

Akron is coming off a 7-6 road victory at Ball State on Sunday, powered by a breakout performance from catcher Mitchel Szymczak. He went 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs in that win. The Zips have won three of their last five games.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Akron 3, Youngstown State 2.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Youngstown State travels to face Central Michigan on Wednesday before a Horizon League series at Oakland. Akron begins a three-game Mid-American Conference home series against Northern Illinois on Friday.
