Grenn, Navy Edge Lafayette in Pitchers’ Duel to Open Doubleheader
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Interstat) — Tyler Grenn delivered a dominant start and Evan Brown drove in the game’s only run in the 11th inning as Navy edged Lafayette 1-0 on Saturday in the opener of a doubleheader.
Grenn rebounded from a rough outing his last time out, scattering six hits over 8 1/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. His effort matched a stellar outing from Lafayette’s Gregory Quintana, who threw seven no-hit innings before exiting.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 11th. With the bases loaded, Brown singled through the left side off reliever Owen Basso to score Connor Klug. Jackson Clark earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Both teams finished with nine hits. Navy improved to 21-13, while Lafayette fell to 7-24.
