Stone’s Near No-Hitter Leads Gamecocks Past Tigers
COLUMBIA, Mo. (Interstat) — Brandon Stone carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and Patrick Evans hit a two-run homer as South Carolina defeated Missouri 5-1 on Thursday at Taylor Stadium.
Stone dominated over six innings, allowing one unearned run and no hits while striking out seven. The Tigers’ only run scored on a groundout after an error. Evans’ homer in the third provided all the offense Stone needed.
Missouri starter Josh McDevitt struck out eight in seven innings but took the loss. Pierre Seals had both of Missouri’s hits. Zach Russell and Alex Valentin finished the combined two-hitter for South Carolina.
The Gamecocks improved to 16-19. The Tigers fell to 20-15. The series continues Friday.
