Brown at Harvard

Brown Bears Look to Continue Momentum Against Harvard Crimson

BOSTON (Interstat) — The Brown Bears, riding a wave of recent success, will face the struggling Harvard Crimson in an Ivy League baseball matchup Tuesday evening at Joseph J. O’Donnell Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 50 degrees.

Brown (17-14) enters having won six of its last eight games, including a 6-1 victory over Columbia on Saturday where pitcher Peter Dubie delivered six strong innings, allowing just one earned run. The Bears took two of three from the Lions over the weekend.

Harvard (8-21) seeks to halt a skid after dropping a 12-inning, 6-4 decision to Dartmouth on Saturday, despite 4 1/3 scoreless relief innings from Jack Smith. The Crimson have lost 10 of their last 13 contests.

The teams split a doubleheader in Cambridge on April 4, with Harvard winning 2-1 and Brown taking the second game 4-0. Dubie was the hard-luck loser in the Crimson’s 2-1 victory, pitching 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball before allowing a run.

Dubie (2-2, 1.89 ERA) is Brown’s key arm, coming off a complete-game, 15-strikeout shutout of Princeton on March 28 and his recent quality start against Columbia. The right-hander has allowed just two earned runs over his last 19 1/3 innings pitched.

For Harvard, Smith (1-3, 5.40 ERA) has been effective in relief, not allowing a hit over his last six innings spanning three appearances. His role for Tuesday’s game was not immediately announced.

Statistical projections are split. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 7-3 Brown victory, while its ELO rating system gives Harvard a 58.8% probability to win.

Following Tuesday’s game, Brown will visit Bryant on Wednesday. Harvard will host Penn for a three-game series starting Saturday.
