Army, Holy Cross Set for Patriot League Showdown
WORCESTER, Mass. (Interstat) — The Army Black Knights and Holy Cross Crusaders will meet for the third time in four days Monday in the finale of a Patriot League series.
First pitch is set for Monday afternoon at Fitton Field.
Army (15-13) will look to salvage a game in the set after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Holy Cross on Saturday by scores of 11-5 and 16-6. The Crusaders (12-16) have won three straight in the head-to-head series and four of five meetings this season.
A player to watch for the Black Knights is shortstop Thomas Schreck, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs in Saturday’s opener. He has driven in 11 runs over his last 10 games.
Holy Cross will counter with outfielder Owen Stelzer, who also homered and drove in four runs in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader. His power surge keyed the Crusaders’ 16-run outburst.
On the mound, Army will seek more stability after using eight pitchers across the two losses Saturday. Holy Cross received strong starting work from Jaden Wywoda, who went five innings and allowed two earned runs in the first game.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Monday’s contest is projected to be a tight one, with Army edging Holy Cross 7-6.
The Black Knights enter having lost two straight but had won seven of eight prior to Saturday. The Crusaders have won three of their last four overall.
Following Monday’s game, Army will visit Fairfield on Tuesday before a weekend series at Lehigh. Holy Cross hosts Stonehill on Tuesday before traveling to face Bucknell next weekend.
