GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — North Carolina A&T capitalized on early Elon miscues to build a lead and held on for a 6-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

The Aggies scored five unanswered runs in the first three innings, all unearned, aided by two Phoenix errors and a balk. Elon’s Jared Hall hit a solo home run in the second. The Phoenix rallied with three runs in the eighth, including an RBI single from Jake Hajdu, but left the bases loaded.

North Carolina A&T starter Aiden Hansen earned the win, allowing one run over five innings. Elon relievers Tommy Mitchell, Kehler Hamilton and RJ Latkowski combined for 5 2/3 hitless innings after the third. Each team had eight hits.

North Carolina A&T improved to 9-21. Elon fell to 13-18.
