LORMAN, Miss. (Interstat) — Cody Leming’s 10th-inning single drove in Johnny Escobalez with the decisive run as Mississippi Valley State edged Alcorn State 6-5 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

The Delta Devils built a 6-0 lead by the third inning, capitalizing on two Braves errors to score four unearned runs. Alcorn State chipped away, pulling within one on Jamir Holloway’s RBI triple and Jaylyn Bennett’s run-scoring single in the seventh. The Braves added another in the eighth on a wild pitch but stranded the potential tying run.

Mississippi Valley State improved to 8-17. Alcorn State dropped to 2-23.
