Harvard at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Ivy League baseball teams seeking momentum will meet Monday when the Cornell Big Red host the Harvard Crimson in an afternoon contest at Hoy Field.

The game, scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch, will be played under cloudy skies with temperatures near 47 degrees. It follows a Sunday meeting between the teams, a result not provided in available statistics.

Both clubs enter with struggling overall records. Harvard sits at 2-14, while Cornell is 3-13. The Crimson are looking to bounce back from a 3-8 loss at Columbia on March 22, their most recent result. The Big Red are coming off one of their better performances, a 6-3 win at Princeton on March 22.

A key matchup will feature Harvard’s power against Cornell’s pitching. Crimson third baseman Jordan Kang has shown flashes of offensive pop, including a home run and two RBIs in the loss to Columbia and a three-hit, four-RBI game in a 14-12 win at California Baptist on March 16. He leads Harvard with two homers and eight RBIs over his last 10 games.

He will likely face Cornell right-hander Ethan Hamill, who has been the Big Red’s most effective starter. Hamill earned the win against Princeton, allowing three earned runs over five innings with six strikeouts. In his previous start on March 15, he gave up just one earned run over five innings in a no-decision against Virginia Military Institute.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the contest projects to be a low-scoring affair, with a predicted final score of Cornell 3, Harvard 2.

The game opens a crucial stretch of Ivy League play for both teams. Harvard will host Stonehill on Tuesday before a series with Brown next weekend. Cornell travels to face Army on Tuesday before hosting Dartmouth in a three-game set starting Saturday.
