Ivy League Foes Columbia, Dartmouth Seek Rare Win in Monday Matchup

HANOVER, N.H. (Interstat) — Two Ivy League baseball teams desperate to halt lengthy skids will meet Monday when Columbia visits Dartmouth for an afternoon contest at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park.

The game, scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch under cloudy skies with temperatures near 41 degrees, features a pair of struggling squads. The visiting Columbia Lions (3-12) have lost 10 of their last 11 games. The Dartmouth Big Green (2-12) have dropped eight of their last nine.

Both teams are coming off weekend conference series where they were swept. Columbia was routed 17-9 by Manhattan on Wednesday. Dartmouth fell 5-2 at Penn on Sunday, despite a strong starting pitching performance.

A player to watch for the Lions is second baseman Jack Kail. He drove in three runs in the loss to Manhattan and is 6 for 16 (.375) with a home run and seven RBIs over his last five games.

Dartmouth will look to right-hander Marco Dumsky, who turned in a notable outing against Penn. In that start, Dumsky pitched five hitless innings, though he allowed two earned runs with five strikeouts. Control was an issue in his previous start, a loss to Navy on March 7 where he gave up six earned runs in four innings.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the pitching duel is expected to continue Monday, with a projected final score of Columbia 2, Dartmouth 1.

The Big Green won the most recent meeting between the teams, 1-0 on Sunday.

Columbia continues its road trip at Fordham on Tuesday. Dartmouth will travel to face Massachusetts-Lowell on Tuesday.
