Mendes Dominates as Seminoles Edge Blue Devils in ACC Opener
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — Wes Mendes struck out 12 over 6 2/3 scoreless innings Friday, leading Florida State to a 3-1 victory over Duke in an Atlantic Coast Conference series opener.
Mendes allowed four hits and walked none, outpitching Duke’s Aidan Weaver, who carried a no-hitter into the sixth but took the loss. The Seminoles broke a scoreless tie in the sixth on RBI singles from Kelvyn and Will. Duke’s Tyler Albright cut the deficit with an RBI double in the eighth, but Florida State added an insurance run on a wild pitch later that frame. John Abraham earned the save for Florida State (20-5, 1-0 ACC). Duke fell to 17-11 (0-1).
