Indiana State at Valparaiso
VALPARAISO, Ind. (Interstat) — The Indiana State Sycamores and Valparaiso Beacons will meet Monday to decide their Missouri Valley Conference series after a weekend of extremes at Emory G. Bauer Field.
The rubber match is scheduled for Monday evening under cloudy skies with a temperature near 61 degrees.
Indiana State (12-14, 1-1 MVC) evened the series with an 18-2 rout Saturday before Valparaiso (7-15, 1-1) responded with a decisive 10-1 victory Sunday. The Beacons’ win snapped a five-game losing streak.
A player to watch for the Sycamores is right-hander Owen Roberts, who delivered 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s loss, allowing just two earned runs. Over his last eight appearances, he has four outings without allowing a hit.
Valparaiso will look for another big game from third baseman Thomas Cooper, who powered Sunday’s win by going 2 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs. He has three homers and eight RBIs in his last seven games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-1 victory for Indiana State.
Following Monday’s contest, Indiana State hosts Purdue on Tuesday. Valparaiso travels to face Northwestern on Tuesday.
