MALIBU, Calif. (Interstat) — Diego Gutierrez fired five no-hit innings with eight strikeouts and the San Diego Toreros defeated the Pepperdine Waves 5-1 on Friday evening.

Gutierrez allowed one earned run, a solo homer to Daniel Patterson in the first inning, but was otherwise flawless. San Diego’s bullpen followed with four perfect innings from Hayden Cody and Porter Rovin.

The Toreros scored early on an Andrew Gauna RBI double and broke open the game in the fifth. Gauna launched a two-run homer after a Pepperdine error, and Jayden Lobliner added a solo shot in the seventh.

San Diego improved to 9-15. Pepperdine fell to 6-19.
