Holy Cross Routs Army in Patriot League Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — Holy Cross capitalized on early Army mistakes, scoring six unearned runs in the first four innings to defeat the Black Knights 6-1 on Friday afternoon at Johnson Stadium at Doubleday Field.

The Crusaders (5-11, 1-0 Patriot) sent 10 men to the plate in a decisive four-run second inning, all unearned, highlighted by Owen Stelzer’s bases-loaded walk and CJ Egrie’s two-run fielder’s choice. They added two more in the fourth on Braden Connors’ two-run single.

Army (6-9, 0-1) managed seven hits but stranded eight runners. Its lone run came on Chris Barr’s RBI single in the fifth. Holy Cross starter Jake Lenahan threw three hitless innings with five strikeouts. The Crusaders’ four hits proved sufficient before an announced crowd of 539.
