Bears Cruise Past Trojans in Doubleheader Opener
CONWAY, Ark. (Interstat) — Jagger Schattle homered and drove in two runs as Central Arkansas defeated Arkansas-Little Rock 7-1 on Friday in the first game of a doubleheader at Bear Stadium.
The Bears erased an early 1-0 deficit with a two-run fourth inning, sparked by a sacrifice bunt from Jack Runsick and a wild pitch. Schattle’s solo homer in the fifth made it 3-1 before Parker Gwyn hit a two-run shot later in the frame.
Central Arkansas pitchers Denver Hamilton, Jakes Jones and Braxton Haywood combined on a six-hitter, allowing just the first-inning run. Haywood earned the save with three perfect innings of relief.
Arkansas-Little Rock managed seven hits but only one run, which scored on an RBI double by Cano in the first. The Trojans fell to 7-7. Central Arkansas improved to 9-6.
