Holcombe, Bullpen Combine for One-Hitter as Cornell Tops Fordham
BRONX, N.Y. (Interstat) — Huxley Holcombe and two relievers combined on a one-hitter Saturday as Cornell beat Fordham 3-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Holcombe set the tone for Cornell, now 1-8, with five hitless innings, striking out four. John Hegarty added three perfect innings of relief. The Big Red managed only six hits off Fordham starter Chase Hanawalt, who struck out 10 over eight innings, but made them count.
Jake Hower provided the key offense for Cornell, launching a solo homer in the seventh and adding an RBI single in the ninth. Fordham’s lone run scored on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly by Taylor Kirk. The Rams fell to 3-9.
