Duke Rallies With Three Unearned Runs in Ninth to Stun Notre Dame in ACC Baseball

DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — The Duke Blue Devils scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday to stun the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 6-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference baseball.

Notre Dame built a 5-1 lead, keyed by Noah Coy’s two-run triple and a sacrifice fly. Duke chipped away with solo homers from Jake Lambdin and AJ Strand.

Trailing by two in the ninth, Duke capitalized on defensive miscues. Lambdin’s RBI groundout and RJ Hamilton’s run-scoring triple tied it before Kaden Smith’s walk-off single completed the comeback.

Duke pitchers Peter Lemke, Ben Dean and Aiden O’Connell combined for 5 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Notre Dame’s Caden Crowell allowed no hits over five innings in a no-decision.

Duke improved to 13-4. Notre Dame fell to 8-4. The teams conclude their series Sunday.
